Nate Brown’s music embraces the diversity of 21st-century
America
through its mix of stylistic influences, exploring the blurred
boundaries
between the worlds of modern classical music and jazz and between
Western and non-Western music. He has
composed works for various standard
classical ensembles as well as for large
and small jazz groups and Balinese gamelan.
One of his recent works, The
Whooshing Noise They Make As They Go By
for saxophone and electronics, was
premiered by Dave Camwell at the
World Saxophone Congress in Ljubljana,
Slovenia in 2006. Nate Brown holds
degrees in composition from the Wheaton Conservatory (Illinois) and the
University of Oregon, and is currently a doctoral student at the Hartt School
in
Hartford, Connecticut, where he also teaches music theory as a teaching
fellow.
