Biography

Nate Brown's earliest musical experience was hearing the Ozark Mountain Daredevils in concert while in the womb.  Since then, he has been exposed to and influenced by a growing sphere of musical styles and genres, ranging from the Western classical tradition to classic rock and from bop-era jazz to Balinese gamelan.  As a composer, he seeks a synthesis of all these influences into a coherent reflection of the diversity of 21st-century America.  His music also explores themes such as nature and conservation, Christian faith, and science-fiction-based comedy.  He is currently ruminating on how to find a musical outlet for his many other interests, including geography, economics, and political philosophy.  Nate's music has been heard across the United States and in Europe and South America.

Nate holds degrees in composition from the Wheaton Conservatory (Illinois), the University of Oregon, and the Hartt School at the University of Hartford. He has taught on the music theory faculty in both the college and community divisions of the Hartt School.

An experienced and versatile church musician, Nate is currently the director of musical worship at Calvary Church in West Hartford, Connecticut. He lives with his family in Tariffville, Connecticut.
